Is Alkaline Water use a Hoax?

Any water with a pH higher than 7 is alkaline water, if you have hard water you may already have alkaline water coming out of the tap! But what about health claims? Widely-quoted skeptic Brian Dunning dismisses alkaline water by claiming “All alkaline water does is raise the pH of your urine.” The problem with Dunning’s statement is; there are health benefits that come from raising the pH of your urine!

According to a study performed at the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center, Low urine pH is linked to a health problem called metabolic syndrome. The lower your urine pH, the more likely it is that you will suffer from:

High Blood Pressure
High Cholesterol
Blood Sugar problems
Kidney Stones
If your urine pH (average taken over a 24 hour period) has a pH of 5.7, you are likely to suffer from all five of the above symptoms. However, if your urine has a pH of 6.15, you will have none of the above symptoms!
